He needs a name.
The giraffe is the first new character I created for Dude, who did not come from my childhood cast of characters.
The giraffe is the facilitator of an Aspie support group. He fields many tough questions. Sometimes he has great ideas, other times he is clueless, but he means well. Kind of like real life, no?
You might wonder, why a giraffe? Continuing my long history of audience participation into my character development, I took my question to the Twitter, and there you have it.
The contest winner will receive a custom avatar of your choice drawn by me! (130 x 130 pixels)
Stretch your creative muscles, folks! You have a high standard to live up to. Consider that our current lineup of characters includes a dog named Dinky Doughnuts, a bird named Squishy, and a Fuzzysnussle. “Bob” the giraffe is not gonna cut it.

giraffe = my favorite animal!
ReplyDeletehow 'bout Gordon or Gordy ....
Gerry or Jerry or Overview
ReplyDeletewe suggest Georgie or Freckle.
ReplyDeleteI don't guarantee that I won't be back five or six times with new suggestions, but for now, I suggest Geronimo.
ReplyDeleteI like the Gordy idea.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure it's a male giraffe? If it was a girl, you could name her Gigi!
I'm sure someone will come up with a very creative name for your giraffe soon Matt! Have a great rest of the week!
Laura
The zanier the better. I am in a zany mood.
ReplyDeleteAlso, ask your kids. Fuzzy, Dinky, and Squishes all were named by elementary school children. :)
ReplyDeleteGeorgio (according to my 6yr old aspie)
ReplyDeleteWafflefleece?
ReplyDeleteGeronimo Jellyroll Giraffe, from Alex, a 7-year-old Aspie from Alabama. We're very alliterative in our family...
ReplyDeleteHow about Mister Stretchymo? Your giraffe kind of reminds me of my friend Stretch. Short for Stretchymo.
ReplyDeleteI did as you asked and checked with my kids. Sam (9 and observant) says Neckman. Jack (8 and autistic) says Melman, but he stole that from the movie Madagascar. Quinn (6 and obnoxious) said something that I'm not going to repeat.
ReplyDeleteMy 4 year old Autistic twins say Rafie and "NO!"...apparently someone doesn't want to share his opinion. I vote for Helix because his neck is long like the double helix. :) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI had a thought going, but then I saw Wafflefleece. I like that one!! If I can come up with something else, I'll post.
ReplyDeleteChris
Thank you for all the creative ideas - keep 'em coming!
ReplyDeleteI must ask, where did "Wafflefleece" come from?
It's a complex construction...
ReplyDeleteFor one thing, I think the giraffe might be a Doctor, so I wanted a good name for that. "Hello! I am Doctor Wafflefleece!" just sounds good. It's fun to say.
Waffle? Well, nearly everyone loves fresh waffles, and a giraffe's pattern is a bit waffle-y. And fleece- I may have been thinking of a giant plushie. Overall, the giraffe seems like a good character, so a positive-association name.
One of the other suggestions could be a first name. ;)
The first name that popped into my head was "Algernon", but I like "Wafflefleece".
ReplyDeleteMy six-year-old named his favorite giraffe Green Giraffe. I recognize that your giraffe lacks color, but the kid also has a black-and-white cat named Yellow, so there is precedent.
ReplyDeleteI like Wafflefleece. Rolls off the tongue.
