There was a rally in Atlanta Ben and I attended. There were about 20 people there. Not Dead Yet, DisABILITY Link and CIL's (Center for Independent Living), ASAN , and the Sheperd Center (rehab for Tramatic Brain injury and spinal cord injury) were represented. It was held at the Sheperd Center in Atlanta. We were all in a some sharing how little respect is given to handicapped lives, discussing how suicide of the handicapped is not discouraged, how they are made to feel guilty for "taking more than their share". We read aloud the names of children who had died under the "care" of family members, remembering them and how they died. We each had a glowing light, all the lights were turned off, and a minute of silence for the dead was given.
So many were in wheelchairs. One beautiful black woman told me to remember what I learned and do something with it. So I tweeted, and wrote this.
A gal with her "Not Dead Yet" Shirt repeated twice what Mother Jones said, "Pray for the dead, and fight like hell for the living." 'Nuf said.

Beautiful cartoon. I'll be at the vigil for George in DC tonight.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Stimey. There's no rally near me, so this is my virtual contribution.
DeleteNo rally near me either.

Powerful. Thanks for sharing.
Delete"We were all in a _circle_, some sharing"...I need to proofread more. Ben and I arrived late (traffic) and they just made it bigger.
