Just reading this gave me flashbacks and anxiety. I think about all the times I've been perfectly happy to sit quietly on a couch by myself at a party, but that's not okay, as I understand it. And then I think about all the times I've been standing alone, kinda panicky because I know I'm not "supposed" to be standing alone and even though I really don't want to talk to someone, I know I look wrong standing there by myself. Mayhap this is why I avoid parties at all costs.
Sorry for the flashback! But hopefully it helps those who would act as "social police" understand the perspective of the "policed," plus we can perhaps enjoy the humor in an all-too-familiar predicament.
